Rochester's Dharmata Meditation Sangha

Our spiritual community (sangha) is most fortunate to be guided by the love and wisdom of Anam Thubten Rinpoche. Rinpoche is an inspiration to those interested in the path of compassion and awakening.

In 2008, Rinpoche ordained two resident teachers, Jan Cook and Sue Kochan. Rinpoche returns annually to guide residential retreats. Jan and Sue teach weekly and offer public talks and retreats throughout the year. Our sangha is also blessed to have beloved Ani Trime visit and teach as her schedule permits.

Anam Thubten RinpocheAnam Thubten grew up in Tibet and at an early age, received traditional Buddhist training from various teachers. In the course of his studies he developed a special affinity towards a very inspiring Dharma teacher and hermit named Lama Tsurlo. Lama Tsurlo's kindness and wisdom gave him the firm base to advance in his Dharma practice and still serves as a source of inspiration on the spiritual path, as well as in his work as a teacher.

In the 1990s, Anam Thubten came to America, and people began requesting Dharma teachings from him. Since then, he has been traveling and teaching extensively in the U.S. and abroad. He is the founder of the Dharmata Foundation and the author of various articles and books in both the Tibetan and English language. His first book in English appeared under the title “No Self, No Problem”. A revised edition of this title is newly released by Snow Lion Publications. Anam Thubten’s teachings mainly draw from Prajnaparamita, the timeless non-conceptual wisdom of Buddha. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, in Northern California.
